Orforglipron is a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist — designed from the start to work as a daily pill, rather than a peptide adapted into tablet form.
The existing oral semaglutide tablet must be taken on an empty stomach with strict water limits, then a 30-minute wait. Orforglipron has none of these restrictions — take it any time, with or without food.
It mimics GLP-1, the gut hormone that reduces appetite and slows stomach emptying — the same mechanism behind the well-known weekly weight loss injections.

Join the launch listNo. It was approved in the US in April 2026 under the brand name Foundayo, but it doesn't yet hold a UK marketing authorisation from the MHRA. No UK pharmacy, clinic or website can legally supply it until that happens. Anyone claiming to sell it to UK patients right now should be treated as unsafe.
Eli Lilly has said it's filing in more than 40 countries. Based on typical MHRA review timelines — and the faster International Recognition route that can lean on the FDA's completed review — private UK availability is realistically expected from late 2026 into 2027. NHS access would come later, after a separate NICE appraisal.
In the 72-week ATTAIN-1 trial, people on the highest dose who stayed on treatment lost around 12.4% of their body weight on average, versus roughly 0.9% with placebo. That's meaningful, clinically significant weight loss — though on average less than the leading weekly injections achieve.
"Better" depends on what matters to you. The injections currently produce greater average weight loss. The pill wins on convenience: no needles, no refrigeration, no weekly routine, and unlike the existing oral semaglutide tablet, no fasting rules. The best option is the one you can take consistently and tolerate well — which is exactly what a proper clinical consultation works out.
Mostly gastrointestinal — nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea — usually mild to moderate and most common while the dose is being increased. This mirrors the wider GLP-1 class. As with all GLP-1 medicines, it isn't suitable for everyone, which is why a clinical assessment is essential.
No UK price has been announced. As a small-molecule tablet it's cheaper to manufacture at scale than peptide injections, which has created expectations of more accessible pricing — but private UK pricing won't be known until closer to launch. Personal importation of prescription-only medicines into the UK without proper authorisation is unsafe and, for suppliers, illegal. Counterfeit GLP-1 products are a real and documented danger. Wait for the regulated UK route — it's coming.
